Torah Cover Project - August 2012
The Congregation engaged nationally known Jewish educator and artist, Nancy Katz, for a two day workshop on August 7th and 8th. The event was held at the Foundation for the Arts in Loveladies.
Thirty seven people participated ranging in age from young children to our most senior members. The first day the group painted a large silk panel, which will be used to create new covers for the congregation's two Torah scrolls. The second day the group discussed the design for a curtain for our new Ark and then painted the silk. Since the Congregation is named Sha'arey Hayam (Gates of the Sea) both designs include ocean themes.
