Only Reform Jewish Synagogue in Southern Ocean County, NJ
Congregation Sha'arey Ha-Yam, the only Reform Jewish Congregation between Toms River and Atlantic City is expanding in response to this area's growing Jewish population.
In 2004, Cyndy Friedland and a group of Jewish residents joined together and established the Reform Jewish Community of Barnegat to serve their religious needs in Southern Ocean County. Their goal is to establish a permanent spiritual home where Jews can gather, worship and educate our children.
The services are led by Rabbi Kim Geringer and are conducted twice a month on Friday at The Lutheran Church of the Holy Spirit, 330 North Main Street, Manahawkin, New Jersey at 7:30 pm.
We have support from The Union of Reform Judaism that acts as our advisor. At this time we have approximately 100 congregants, which includes families, singles, retirees and people who are interested in learning more about Reform Judaism.
Our long-term goal is to build a Temple in this region where we can worship, celebrate and educate our children in Jewish traditions to create a true Jewish community. We offer Jewish education along with Bar/Bat Mitzval training through our Hebrew School.
Our community is inclusive and welcomes traditional Jewish families, Jews by Choice, interfaith families and singles.
For this Congregation to succeed and grow volunteers are needed to serve on the following committees:
Membership
Ritual
Fundraising
Finance
Religious School
Publicity
Sunshine
Hospitality
